Laramie is a high-plains college town of about 31,000, the seat of Albany County and home to the University of Wyoming, the state's only four-year university. That university drives nearly everything about the local market, from the amenities to a steady, perennial rental demand you will not find in the smaller towns. It sits about 152 miles south of Casper.

Laramie is built around the University of Wyoming, the state's only four-year university, so it carries the energy of a college town: Cowboys football and basketball, a lively historic downtown of brick storefronts, coffee shops, and bookstores, and a cultural calendar the university keeps full. The Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site tells the frontier story right in town, and the Laramie Plains Museum fills in the rest.

The setting is the other draw. Laramie sits high on the plains at over seven thousand feet, ringed by hiking and climbing. Vedauwoo's wild granite formations are minutes east, and the Snowy Range and Medicine Bow National Forest rise to the west for skiing, alpine lakes, and trails. It is an outdoors town with a university at its center, about an hour from both Cheyenne and the Colorado line.
